Everybodies Sleeping!
Wow...another day on the trail...most mushers are staying for their 24 hour in Takotna...as Mackey slid into McGrath, Ailey Zirkle and the rest of the lead pack, 18 miles ahead, were signing into Takotna. Most all mushers are on their 24 hour rests now. When they break their rest in the am, Mackey will be about 2.5 - 3 hours behind the front runners. But its early yet. Mackey pulled in with 2 dogs in the basket....it will be interesting to see how many dogs he leaves McGrath with. Martin Buser and son Rohn Buser surprised everyone by blowing right past Takotna on the way to Ophir. At first I was like....Wow...Father and Son making a bold move...but the Iditarod Insider narratives just say Buser always prefers to do his 24 hour rest in Ophir. And Rohn followed suit...like father, like son. I shall keep an eye on them through the night to see if either one of them makes a move to Cripple, 80 miles away. Or they may opt to sit out the 24 hour right there in Ophir. Cripple marks the halfway point.
