Dallas Has the Edge
Heading into Elim, Dallas is now 2 to 3 miles ahead of Aliy according the GPS tracker. The rabbit Dallas has control of the hound...but what will happen at the next checkpoint in Elim. Elim is only 3 miles in front of Dallas, and TYPICALLY, mushers take a little break to hydrate the dogs with a soup of kibbles and meat. ...it takes about 2 hours to feed and rest your dogs. Then its a 47 trek over to White Mountain for an 8 hour rest. Aliy is running out of options. She is 2 to 3 miles behind Dallas. Its now or never...got to think outside of the box. IF Aliy feels her team is up to it, she will cut rest to the point SHE is comfortable. Its the spirit of her Team who will actually make the decision....if her Team NEEDS rest, she will rest them, and settle for a comfortable 2nd place finish. IF her Team IS up to it...watch for Aliy to cut rest, and become the rabbit, if even for a short time. What does she have to loose? Once in White Mountain, the clocks will be reset...EVERYONE gets an 8 hour rest before dashing 77 miles to Nome to win the race. This is a tight race...and decisions in Elim will essentially define the race to Nome.
