New Trail Location Over Sea Ice

Well, that explains it!! They relocated the trail over the sea ice...it looked as though Mackey and everyone else was drifting off to the west...BUT in reality they were on the new trail, which added 5 to 6 miles to the trek from Shatoolik to Koyuk. Reports out of that check point described the mushers as exhausted and mentally whipped due to the longer run over the sea ice. Mackey pushed on and is on his way to Golovin. King decided to rest his dogs in Elim...but it was Hans Gatt this time taking chase after Mackey. Gatt is posting faster speed than Mackey...you got to wonder if this years Yukon Quest Champion can over take Lance. Time will tell. It looks as though King JUST took chase after Gatt...he is trailing him by about 4 miles now....all on their way to Golovin. From Golovin its another 18 miles to White Mountain where all Mushers will take their mandatory 8 hour rest. Usually, the way they file into White Mountain is the way they finish in Nome...that is IF you have a nice lead. There is no telling who is going to win this race...Mackey has a 14 mile lead over Gatt...Gatt has a 4 mile lead over King...what a race!!!
