Gebhardt Makes a Move

Sebastian Schnuelle was the first one out of the Dalzell Gorge and into Rohn, followed by a tight group of Baker, Gatt, King, Haltmann, Steer and Gebhardt. But its Gebhardt who only stays 17 minutes before getting back on the trail.....the rest stay in Rohn to give their dogs rest. Mackey is also there, about 2 hours behind Sebastian Schnuelle. According to one of the Insider videos, the weather is really snowy in Rohn...hopefully tomorrow morning they will post some stories regarding the trip down the Dalzell Gorge. Beyond Rohn is the Farewell Burn, and last report said it was lacking of snow. Maybe this last snow event changed matters there...lets hope!

Even though Gebhardt is physically in the lead, when they sync the clock when he takes his mandatory 24 rest he could fall further back in the rankings due to the 2 minute differential start time. You see, Gebhardt is Bib number 7. To compute his real differential you have to take another bib number higher than 7, subtract 7 from it and then multiply by 2 minutes.....this is the time that will be ADDED to Gerhardt's 24 hour rest to sync the clock. This gives a little perspective to the leaders of the race...the ones with high bib numbers are actually higher in the standings then they appear...mushers with low bib numbers are actually further down in the standings according to the simple calculation. Once all mushers take their mandatory 24 hour rest we can then take the standings for face value. OK....its 2:35 am....I got to get back to sleep!
