It doesn't appear the warmth of the day is stopping some pretty fast Teams.....we have Wade Marrs out in front of Dallas at mile 438, and Dallas at mile 425. But one to really keep an eye on is Buser at mile 408. Out of those 3, Buser is the only one who has taken all of his mandatory rest....both Dallas and Wade need to serve out their 8 hours somewhere before leaving this Yukon River/Huslia portion of the trail. Buser has set a blistering pace ever since he got off his 24 back in Ruby!
No one has yet to leave Huslia....so I guess my prior prediction of some of the chase pack to up and leave in the morning hours has come and gone. That said, it looks like they have decided their dogs need the rest and will enjoy the hospitality of Huslia for their 24 hour rest. Mitch and Nick have the best window for heading back out on the trail in the nighttime hours after their 24 hour rest. Others will be leaving around daybreak....hope it doesn't heat up quickly tomorrow for those mushers.
Jeff King , Ray Reddington and Aliy will all be coming off of their 24 hour break in Galena at a good time to take advantage of the night temperatures on their way to Huslia, 82 miles away.
Please put some healing thoughts towards Aliys Team, as they have been fighting a stomach bug for a awhile now. Those SPK dogs are some of the best out on the trail, but with a bug to fight off they just cant perform to the best of their abilities....I'm sure the 24 hour break has been very beneficial for them as they try to kick this thing! Hang in there Aliy!!
