Strategy

After reading up on some other blogs, it's generally thought Berkowitz will unleash the power of his 15 dogs on the run over the sea ice to Koyuk. King, who rested longer in Unk and still was able to bite into the lead of Burmeister may also be reserving strength to make a move. Mitch is moving well up in front, but if King and Berkowitz challenge it will be interesting if he can hold on. Aliy is in 4th right now, and is driving a very alert dog team of 11 huskies. The pundants are not mentioning any challenge for Aliy, so it just be Berkowitz and and Kings Team look stronger. Aliy made a very good run into Shaktoolik and may be planning a move of her own. The run of the sea is is a bit unnerving. The horizon is lost in the flat topography, and when the wind blows it really can be disorienting. I believe a GPS at this juncture is a valued tool, outlawed all they way till last year! No one has bolted out of Shaktoolik thus far....who will be the first to cross the ice?
