As Mitch blows in and OUT of Unalakleet, it is reported Dallas and Brent are readying their teams. Dallas is first one out on Mitch's heels, and now I also see Brents tracker has started to move out of Unalakleet as well. I am anticipating Aily will follow suit shortly. Both Dallas and Brent are only a few miles behind Mitch.
Mitch will likely stop in Shaktoolik, 40 miles down the trail since he camped 20 miles out from Unalakleet...the rest of the Teams who rested in Unalakleet may try pushing beyond Shak to get to Koyuk another 50 miles across Norton Sound on the Bering Sea ice. From Unalakleet to Koyuk its a combined length of 90 miles...that is hard to do in one long march. It will be interesting to see what Teams do here....while at the same time not running their Teams in the heat of the day. Its 6 am in Alaska right now....the heat of the day is about from 11 to 3ish I would assume. Temps on the Coast right now are at 5 above with a wind chill of aroujnd minus 10....its forcasted to rise into the lower teens but with bright cloudless sunshine with North winds 10 to 20 mph.
I checked the stats....Mitch dropped a dog and is down to 12.....Dallas dropped a dog and is down to 9...Sass dropped a dog and is down to 13.
Let the race along the Coast begin!
