Fast Track To the Front

Its reportedly a very fast trail due to the low snow conditions in this first section of trail.  This morning at 3 am I had to chuckle....it appears Hugh Neffs wish to be "more conservatiove until the later part of the race" seems to be exactly NOT what he is doing!  Hugh with Bib#70 is presently in second chasing down Nickolas Petit!

Some of you may recall in past years its been Martin Buser taking on the rabbit role early in the race....running all the way through the Alaska Range before really taking any breaks....but it appears Martin is hanging back....perhaps because he has the flu.  Apparently the flu is going around the Mushers right now!  Dallas is said to have it too, with Wade Marrs coming down with it on Thursday.  I can not imagine being sick on the trail....lets hope anyone who gets it will have a speedy recovery on the speedy trail!

Right now, at 5:15 am eastern time the GPS Tracker has Petit resting at mile 104, Neff at mile 100, Allen Moore (SP Kennel......go Black Team) at mile 92, Lance Mackey at mile 91, Kaiser resting at mile 89, Cim Smyth resting at 85, Ray Redington at 84, Jody Baily at mile 85, Rick Casillo at 84 and Jessie Royer just leaving the check point at mile 84.  All other Teams are still resting at this juncture at the Skwentna check point....I anticipate a mass exit shortly!

There is PLENTY of miles to go.....strategies will play out as the race progresses....more on that later!
