Heading to Koyukuk!

Now the race gets a bit more interesting and easier to figure out who exactly is in the lead.  Right now Jeff King has about a 24 mile lead over Dallas Seavey, who has just come off his 24 hour rest in Huslia.  Burmiester is just about to pass a resting Aliy on the trail behoind Jeff...but neither of these 2 have taken their 8 hour rest yet, so right now they are front runners, but just not THE front runners...same for Mitch Seavey....he has not taken his 8 hour rest either.  These folks will quite likely take their 8 hour rest in Kaltag before heading down the old portage trail to the coast.  King and Dallas however are done with all their mandatory rest, so are heading into the next half of this race with more flexibility.  They will of course have to rest...but at a place and time of their choosing.  Leaving Huslia next is Jason Campeau, Jason Waerner, Ken Anderson and Hugh Neff....all of who will have completed their mandatory rests.

It is worthy to note most mushers presently headed to Koyukuk are down to 13, 14 or 15 dogs....EXCEPT King and Zirkle who still have their full complement of 16 canine atheletes!
