Buser Questions His Actions

If anyone has watched the video of Martin Buser camped a short distance away from his planned 24 hour rest, you got to wonder what the heck happened???  The video clearly showed a distraught Buser lamenting his actions...he says over and over again "what am I doing"..."this is not me"...."I don't want to be an embarrassment".  The clip left all of us wondering what the heck happened.  Earlier in the race there was a bit "to do" about Buser heading out without putting booties on his dogs....here we go...as my friend Carrie put it "Bootie Gate".  At the time I was thinking what's the big deal....but many mushers who were interviewed and asked about the tactic said it was risky.  Apparently this type of snow does have the potential of creating abrasions on the dogs feet....although running without booties gives the dogs more traction, thus more speed.  Perhaps Buser was feeling (or rather his dogs were feeling) the affects of that "barefoot" run?  He was literally camped about 40 miles from where he would rest for 24 hours...very odd for a competitive team.  He conceded he is no longer running competitively....and will probably question and judge himself for the rest of the race.  I feel bad for Buser....he is a class act....it's unfortunate he is beating himself up right now.  I hope he snaps out of it.  Whatever made him stop being competitive Im sure it was in the best interest of his dogs.
