Baker in Shaktoolik!

Baker is in Shaktoolik!! Its actually suprising no one is really challanging his 2 hour lead over the rest of the pack. Gatt and Ramey Smyth have been the most aggressive thus far...the tracker shows Gatt now in second and Ramey Smyth 4 miles behind him...Neff and Schnuelle are just 3 miles behind Ramey...but that could just be a matter of stopping on the trail to snack the dogs on the trek over to Shaktoolik. As Baker rests, the pack gets closer.....and the next section of trail beyond Shaktoolik takes the Teams onto the sea ice of Norton Sound. This can be trecherous during storm events, such in the 1991 Iditarod. BUT not this year...not a storm in sight. It should be a nice run into Koyuk through the night. It will be interesting to see who rests in Shaktoolik, and for how long, before venturing out on the ice.
